Cervical Cancer Specialist in Dwarka Delhi

Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the cervix, the opening of the uterus or womb into the vagina. It happens when cervix cells grow abnormally and invade other tissues and organs of the body. When this cancer is invasive, it affects the cervix's deeper tissues and may have spread to other parts of the body (metastasis), most notably the lungs, liver, bladder, vagina, and rectum.

The normal cervix contains two types of cells: squamous or flat cells that protect the outside of the cervix and glandular cells that produce the fluid and mucus seen during ovulation.

It is the only gynecologic cancer that can be prevented through regular screening and preventive vaccination because it is caused by abnormal changes in either of these cell types in the cervix. Cervical cancer is most common in women between the ages of 30 and 55.

Cervical Cancer Symptoms

Cervical cancer and pre-cancers are usually asymptomatic. That is why a Pap test is so important. Typically, a woman has no symptoms until the cells transform into cancer and invade the deepest parts of the cervix or other pelvic organs. These are common symptoms in women diagnosed with cervical cancer.

  • Vaginal discharge has increased.

  • Odour from the vaginal cavity

  • Bleeding during menstruation

Treatment

The clinical/radiological stage of the tumour usually dictates treatment. Although radiation can be used, surgery is the most common treatment for early cervical cancer. The final decision will be based on several factors, including the stage and size of your cancer, as well as your overall health.

Cervical Cancer Diagnosis

  • Stage I:Cancer has spread from the cervix lining into deeper tissue but is still only found in the uterus.

  • Stage II:Cancer has spread beyond the cervix to nearby areas, such as the vagina or tissue near the cervix, but it is still contained within the pelvic area.

  • Stage III:The cancer has spread beyond the cervix and vagina.

  • Stage IV: The cancer has spread to the lungs, liver, spleen, brain, and bones.
